Project 1 Progress

Not as far as I'd like to be at this point with this project but its what I have so far.  I decided to start over after working a different picture and realizing too much of it was out of focus for a decent tracing.  My swatches are saved at home so for now in class all I've been working on is getting as much of the tracing as possible done.  As far as coloring goes I may have to keep in black and white as I don't have the original color photo for reference.

Non Digital Artwork

So I'm new to this whole blogging thing so bear with me as I learn the ropes of it all.  As our first assignment we were asked to post three pieces of non digital art so that Mr. Davison can get a feel for our interests. The first two images are from my favorite art class I've taken since I started college. It was a sculpture foundry class that focused on bronze working. We did traditional sand casts and wax mold casting in this class and I loved every second of it. From making the mold to applying patinas to the finished and tooled projects. The first picture is the finished project and the second was the original concept for the piece. The idea was to make a piece that would fit the description of a talisman or artifact.  I chose this wolf figure because I enjoyed the description of the wolf in Norse mythology and culture that I found. The wolf stood for both chaos and creation as it is a caring part of nature and predator. The piece is roughly the size of your hands clasped together.

This second image is an Icosahedron. We had to come up with a design that would fit with in a 3.5inch equilateral triangle and cut it out using a exacto blade.  My teacher originally tried to shy me away from this design because he thought it would be too difficult and time consuming. It did take over 20+ hours to do but the result was well worth the effort. The piece is cut out of one piece of Bristol board all folded together and is roughly the size of a small basketball.
This final piece is a painting done in acrylic at my first semester here at Tyler. I hated painting when I started the class but have come to enjoy it more after completing that class. The idea behind this project was to convey a word given to us by our teacher. My word was "torment".  I had a lot of fun with this project, mostly due to the way I added the hand prints and texture to the painting. The picture hardly does it justice but it was definitely one of my favorite projects. The piece is roughly 8.5 by 11inches.

I hope this first post was informative, more to come soon as this semester progresses!
